Reviews
My first time experiencing a tea room. Loved the decor and feel of the space. Service was good, server knowledgeable about history of location and menu.
We went for brunch/lunch. The tea service was nice and my hot chocolate was decadent. The food however, was not as satisfying and we left most of it on our plates.
My creme brulee French toast was VERY sweet and my companion said the shrimp in his shrimp and grits tasted "bagged" but I think because they were Gulf coast shrimp, maybe they were not the shrimp we're used to as low country natives.
All things considered, it was such a quaint, cozy place I would definitely go back
A must see in Savannah! Such a beautiful building whose history you can hear about from your server and enjoy a delicious meal/tea. Our server Niti was so sweet. The Moroccan chicken and tea sweets were scrumptious.
Food was good! My daughter and I had the afternoon tea tower and the cobb salad. The ambiance made you feel like you were having tea in the good old fashioned days! Would recommend. We will be back when we visit again.
Don't miss the Gryphon for brunch and tea. Venue is in an old pharmacy. Food is excellent, service is top notch, and the prices are more than reasonable (especially for this level of restaurant in Savannah). I usually have the smoked salmon sandwich, and we will share a buratta salad. Make sure you check the hours.
I stopped in to the Gryphon Tea Room to see what it was like 22 years after working here as a SCAD student.
The experience was lovely and service excellent. Nearly everyone working is a student at the art college, just like when I worked there, including my wonderful server whose name I can’t recall but do remember his family lives in Mumbai, India.
The server also shared details of the building’s history.
The beauty of the room on its own merits a visit—go here!
We came across Gryphon by accident at lunchtime on a Sunday. Although it was full they made us comfortable until a table was ready.
It was so worth the wait!
The food was wonderful and the prices were so reasonable for the quality of the food and the superb surroundings.
Best of all was the service, absolutely impeccable.
They made two Brit tourists very happy, a great experience that will live long in the memory!
Whenever we visit Savannah, we always make it a point to spend a relaxing afternoon at Gryphon. The interior is ornate and filled with interesting history, while the servers are friendly and knowledgeable about the tea room. The afternoon tea service has excellent tea sandwiches and a diverse selection of pastries. It is on the smaller size portion-wise, so I’d recommend one service per person. The entrees are a bit hit-or-miss. The chicken is generally dry and plain. The salmon was good but the accompanying vegetables were overcooked. Still, definitely worth a visit for the afternoon tea.
We really enjoyed the food and the history of the building. Our server was amazing. It was really neat to walk around and look at all the original woodwork and the first electric clock in Savanah. I had the blueberry lemonade, and it was probably the best I have ever had.
